Power-plant human-machine interfaces (HMI’s) have been graphical for many years, but the underlying systems are now becoming significantly more digital, which leaves many HMIs behind as their design does not really support the kinds of automation now possible.
GE Activepoint brought modern design ideas (with regard to user experience) and contemporary human factors ideas (ecological design) to bear on this old problem. the result shows a very marked difference from the earlier generations of HMI.
